After Lasik Care
Caring the eye after Lasik eye surgery or post operative care of the operated eye is very important. Post operative care of eye may make the difference between success of the Lasik eye surgery and failure of the Lasik eye surgery. You should educate yourself fully about the care procedures of the eye after undergoing Lasik eye surgery and carry them out very strictly so that your Lasik surgery can become complete success to the level of satisfaction.
Generally most of the Lasik eye surgeries are successful. Very few people suffer from complications of Lasik eye surgery and most of these complications are minor and do not pose any serious threat to the eye or eyesight and most of these complications are due to faulty eye care after Lasik surgery. As most of the post operative complications of Lasik eye surgeries are due to lack of proper care of the operated eye, it is possible to reduce post operative complications further from present very low rate.
Doctors generally educate the patient about the procedure (Lasik eye surgery) as well as how to take care of the eye after undergoing surgery which may be for several years. It is also duty of the individual to learn from the ophthalmic surgeon and other health care providers about care for eyes after Lasik procedure. In general you need to take certain precautions after undergoing Lasik eye surgery.
- First of all you need to take complete rest, preferably sleep immediately after the procedure. Sleep immediately after Lasik surgery can help in healing of your eyes faster.
- Another important precaution or care of eye that must be followed strictly is not to have any contact (rubbing, bumping or any other contact with the eye) with operated eye for at least five days. For this purpose eye guard should be used, especially during sleeping to avoid accidental rubbing.
- Exposure to bright light after Lasik eye surgery should also be avoided.
- You will be tempted to see and read which you were not able to read before surgery, but you should not put stress on you eye and resist temptation for a week or two.
- You should use the lubricant eye drops as per direction of your doctor to prevent dryness of the operated eye and avoid complication. Lubrication also facilitates healing process. Despite use of lubricants, there may be dryness of eye, but it is generally temporary.
Simple care taking of eye after Lasik surgery can reduce the complication to a great extent and make the Lasik procedure better.
